The music school:
The East Antrim Traditional Music School was
started in 2005 and is based in South Antrim
(Northern Ireland) the ambition of the School is to
contribute significantly to the regeneration of the
culture of playing traditional music in this area.
The music school courses are designed to give you
the best possible introduction to Irish traditional
music playing. Irish music, like languages, is best
learned by ear, so there is next to no musical theory
in these courses.

The experience of East Antrim Traditional Music
School has shown that there is a thriving interest
in traditional music amongst the people of South
Antrim.
The school was formed with the aim of providing goals, structure,
and performance opportunities for those who are interested in
learning Irish traditional music and instruments. We provide
lessons and a slow session learning group.
The school provides classes for all ages and skill levels for most
traditional Irish instruments - fiddle, tinwhistle, flute, guitar,
mandolin, harp, bodhrán and traditional singing.
The Gasworks session group was set up because there has been a
real absence of opportunity for young people to have an
environment to learn and to play traditional music with any
frequency. We believe this has limited their growth as musicians,
as well as their ability to develop their Irish style and repertoire.
The Gasworks Session is part of East Antrim Traditional Music
School. It meets fortnightly on a Friday night at Flame
Gasworks Museum, Carrickfergus.
